"Melanie Ida Chopko has that precious and rare quality that we long for in our artists…a unique way of seeing. Happily she also has the grace of melody and words to communicate it to us."
Rachel Efron, producer
“Standing out in today’s musical landscape, Melanie Ida Chopko crafts an intimate and personal blend of chamber pop and indie folk, centering around her deeply emotive vocals. I Come From is a magical adventure that speaks to a modern generation."

about
With her songs described as "little jewels," singer-songwriter Melanie Ida Chopko pours her heart out over jazz chords and bold, inquisitive melodies. She performs on voice and piano, using storytelling & comedy to help her audience experience, above all else, a sense of togetherness. If Joni Mitchell, Sufjan Stevens, and Tori Amos were neighbors and made music on Sundays, it might sound like this.
She co-produced her newest album, I Come From, with longtime friend of 17 years and Independent Music Award winner,
Jean Rohe.
"I come from the wildest dreams of my ancestors, their courage, their unlived lives, their best possible choices and mistakes. I come from stolen land and stolen bodies. From the violence and lie of whiteness, the fear at its root. I come from a long winding path back to myself, my center, my soft and wild heart. I come from the quiet miracle of willingness, and the gift of everyone who has
loved me into being..."
In 2020, Melanie began the hilarious and magical process co-writing with kids, collaborating with Oakland’s Chapter510 & The Dept. of Make Believe, creating “Memory of Sky” with Maya (age 9) for their album Freedom Is.
