"Melanie Ida Chopko has that precious and rare quality that we long for in our artists…a unique way of seeing. Happily she also has the grace of melody and words to communicate it to us."
Rachel Efron, producer

about
Melanie Ida Chopko’s sophomore album, Never Had a Love Like This, is a dispatch from the interior of modern adulthood—a sweeping indie folk record shaped by pandemic-era dating and tech-fractured intimacy. Across these ten tracks, Chopko charts a return to the body, to human connection, and to the natural world.
At once delicate, funny, and boldly roaring, the album offers a deeply personal response to some of our most pressing collective questions: living admist the loneliness of modern life and a destabilized climate.
In Chopko’s world, struggle doesn’t need to be conquered to be beautiful. These are songs of joy, comfort, and stubborn hope forged in the underbelly of uncertainty. An unflinching, satisfying work from an artist who holds an entire generation’s worth of frustration and longing in her gaze—and crafts for us a rare gift: recognition.
In 2020, Melanie began the hilarious and magical process of co-writing with kids, collaborating with Oakland’s Chapter510 & The Dept. of Make Believe, creating “Memory of Sky” with Maya (age 9) for their album Freedom Is.
